Diapers for Afghan Children
Boxes and boxes of diapers were distributed to kids in Baltimore and to Afghan immigrants living in Northern Virginia. Diapers aren’t only a convenience, but are important for keeping a baby rash and irritation free, and less likely to develop other infections. But at 10-12 diapers a day for a newborn, and slightly fewer for young toddlers, it’s an incredible expense for parents living on a low income. At approximately $0.25 a diaper, that’s about $3.00 a day, or $90.00 a month. Some parents living in or near poverty have to choose between food or diapers. With young babies using up to 300 or more diapers a month, it’s no wonder that both Bakhita Kids, and the charities we partner with, are often asked for diapers. It may seem like these are requested more than any other single item, but it’s easy to see why!
